December 2nd marks the first Sunday in Advent, and to help us get prepared to face the upcoming holidays I’d like to check in with two old friends of mine from Shinbone Alley, New York: Archy, the free verse poet who died and was reincarnated as a cockroach, and Mehitabel, the alley cat who makes the dubious claim that she was once Cleopatra.
Our speaker – Wallace R. Hoggatt – grew up in Los Angeles, where he attended First Unitarian Church on Tenth and Vermont, but he now lives in a small county in southern Arizona. He will retire as Judge of the Superior Court of Arizona in Cochise County at the end of December, having served as a trial judge for 22 years and 8 months. For close to 17 years before taking the bench, he was a practicing lawyer. Last year he was ordained as a minister by the Christian Universalist Association. He and his wife Dottie have four daughters between them.
