SCOTUS Makes Historic Rulings!
SLO County Begins Issuing Marriage Licenses to Same Sex Couples – UUFSLO was there!
Last week the Supreme Court handed down their much-anticipated rulings regarding DOMA and California’s Proposition 8. DOMA is Down! Prop 8 is Dead!
Marriage licenses began to be issued in SLO County on Monday morning, July 1, at 8:00 AM. Rev. Rod Richards was at the Government Center to marry any couples that wished. About 15-20 people from our congregation supported and cheered the couples as each was married. The ceremonies were short, but very poignant and joyful. Yummy wedding cupcakes and sparkling cider were served, and the couples were showered with bubbles as they embraced. Many photos were taken, and both KSBY news and the Trib were on hand to cover the weddings. Love was flowing!
The fight for marriage equality has been long and difficult, and it’s not over yet. There are still 37 states where marriage equality has not yet been won. But the tide is definitely changing, and we will continue standing on the side of love until full equality for every GLBTQ person is achieved! Our commitment to the worth and dignity of every person has contributed significantly to these steps towards equality. The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice!
