Worship Arts Committee
The Worship Arts Committee engages in actively learning together the art of crafting meaningful Worship services. The Committee is responsible for arranging/presenting services for eight Sundays in the summer and one Sunday per month from September through June. We invite guest speakers to bring to the UU community their views on a broad range of topics, and we collaborate with groups and individuals from within the congregation (Music, Religious Exploration, UU Animal Ministry, Green Sanctuary, just to name a few) to explore those topics that have special meaning in our faith community.
Dynamic worship is at the center of our spiritual life – we pause each week to celebrate our joys, acknowledge our deep sorrows, reflect and learn from one another, lift our voices and spirits in song, and prepare ourselves to take our UU message into the community and the world.
Committee members take turns preparing the altar each week, assuring that everything necessary for worship is in place. As we settle into our new sanctuary in the coming months, there will be many opportunities for even more creativity in arranging the altar space and developing diverse elements to broaden our worship experience.
The Committee works collaboratively with the minister, music director and music committee. We meet once a month, currently on the third Wednesday at 10 a.m. During a typical meeting, we reflect on recent services (what worked well? What needs our attention?), plan for future services, share new resources, explore upcoming themes and how our service planning can reflect those themes. If you are drawn to creating, leading or contributing to UU worship, we would love to hear from you and welcome you to take part.
