Shower the People (STP) is a mobile shower program that provides free hot showers and new underwear and socks, toothpaste/toothbrushes and combs to the homeless in San Luis Obispo and in Grover Beach. You may have noticed STP’s big blue shower trailer in our UUSLO parking lot. We are located there every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Last year STP provided 3,111 showers at the UUSLO alone. Across all sites, the total number of showers was 5,900. The need for showers among the homeless is great.
STP is an all-volunteer run and operated program. Our program’s goal is to have a welcoming, safe, clean and reliable site for folks to shower. STP provides showers rain or shine and on all holidays. You might recognize some of our volunteers from UUSLO: Dave Bernhardt, Steve Brown, Douglas Pillsbury, Beth Hirsch, Kathy Sallaz and myself, Gwen Watkins.
Volunteering your time at the showers is interesting, meaningful, and fun. We would love to have you drop by and check us out. Or, you can always talk to our UUSLO volunteers to learn more about our shower program. Our website is: showerthepeopleslo.org.
