We are deeply grateful for your ongoing support. Thank you for accepting Literacy for Life’s application to be the beneficiary of your Community Outreach Offering for August 2024. Your donation means a lot to us. In Fiscal Year 2023-24, we served 108 learners with 83 volunteer tutors in San Luis Obispo County. The learners identified as Asian, Black, Hispanic, and White. Seventy-two women and thirty-six men participated in our program.

Literacy for Life, a.k.a. The Literacy Council, was established in 1982 as a 501(c3) in San Luis Obispo County. We have remained open continuously ever since, including during the great recession and the Covid pandemic. Although we no longer receive state funding, we apply for and receive grants from local city and county entities and corporate and private donors. We are committed to “Keep On and Carry On”.

We need your assistance for our program to continue successfully. We need to recruit learners and tutors and to have funds to purchase necessary books and materials. Our mission to transform the community, empower individuals by removing barriers to success, and strengthen relationships through the power of literacy are just words without your community’s consistent contribution.
