Meals That Connect – Senior Nutrition Program

November, 2023

Nestled in the heart of San Luis Obispo, the Meals That Connect Senior Nutrition Program (MTC) boasts a passionate team fueled by over 400 active volunteers. Since 1991, our mission has remained simple yet profound: to enhance the lives of cherished seniors in San Luis Obispo County.

MTC’s mission is centered on restoring dignity, promoting independence, enhancing health, and reducing isolation among seniors, with a focus on the homebound; a staggering 85% of our senior clients are homebound. Your support is critical for their well-being.

Over the years, Meals That Connect has served countless meals to seniors in need throughout the county. Last year, our efforts resulted in over 180,000 free meals provided to seniors. But it’s not just sustenance; it’s the meaningful connections we foster that combat the perils of isolation in our aging population. Pete Pepper, one of our long-time volunteers says, “Meals That Connect could also be called People That Connect because it’s so much more than just providing good nutrition, it provides a vital connection to our shared humanity.”

We conduct daily noontime meals at ten locations throughout the county, reaching 1,800 seniors. For homebound seniors, our volunteers deliver not just food, but also moments of warmth and companionship.

Your support means the world to these seniors. Your donations ensure they receive nutritious meals and a touch of companionship that can be truly transformative. Due to the pandemic, food costs have increased by 40%, along with higher staffing and transportation costs, making community support more critical than ever. As MTC adapts to the changing needs of the community, your contributions provide a lifeline to those who might otherwise be forgotten.
