SLO County Citizens’ Climate Education (CCE) is a volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to creating effective solutions for the climate crisis. Every month, we gather in the UUSLO social hall to plan and take action. Working together, we can make a difference.
Here’s what SLO County CCE has been doing—and what your contributions will help us continue:
- Engaging the Community: Our Tabling Team was out in force last year, staffing events for eight days, including two full days at the Central Coast Bioneers Conference.
- Spreading the Word: Our Presentations Team delivered 11 talks last year, and we’re already on track with eight more scheduled this year.
- Making Our Voices Heard: The Media Team successfully published 14 letters to the editor and 10 op-eds on climate change in 2024. This year, we’ve already published four letters and participated in two radio talk shows.
- Restoring Our Planet: Our Healthy Forests Team of 10 dedicated volunteers planted trees on seven different occasions last year and several more this year, helping to fight climate change at its roots.
- Launching New Initiatives: We introduced two new programs: Climate Conversations, led by a clinical psychologist, providing a space to discuss the emotional impact of climate change, Reduce Plastics, a targeted effort to minimize plastic waste in our community, conducting workshops around SLO County.
- Advocating for Policy Change: We actively engage with our representatives, including regular meetings with Congressman Salud Carbajal and state legislators. Through our partnership with the National Citizens’ Climate Lobby, we even take our message to Washington, D.C., every year, advocating for bold legislative solutions.
Together, we can build a future we’re proud to pass on to the next generation.
