Filling gaps, spreading love:
one-time essential help for SLO residents in need.
Womenade SLO Inc. is an all-volunteer grassroots organization established to provide urgent, essential support to individuals and families in San Luis Obispo who are referred to and approved by Womenade SLO. Sandy Richardson founded San Luis Obispo County Womenade in 2003, and during her tenure shared over $1,100,000 with neighbors in crisis. From 2019 on, South San Luis Obispo County Womenade, Estero Bay Womenade, and North County NeighborAid have served our county.
In April of this year, Sandy’s daughter, Elaine Stewart, launched Womenade SLO for the city of San Luis Obispo, and has already raised over $20,000 to meet the needs of residents in the city.
Womenade SLO fills gaps when larger social service organizations are unable to meet clients’ immediate needs. Needs are met through referrals from agents such as social workers, medical personnel, and school employees. Working with these trusted advocates, food, partial rent, utilities, gas, medical and dental care, clothing, school supplies, hygiene products, diapers, formula, etc. are provided without judgement. Recent needs met include a bed for a high school student who was sleeping on a couch, medications for a cancer patient, and a breast pump and car seat for a pregnant foster youth.
