UUSLO provides free food to those in need every Wednesday from 3 to 4:30 pm in the Social Hall. We provide a pantry service where people may choose from the products available that week. Food is purchased in part from the SLO Food Bank and in part from local stores. Funding comes entirely from the UUSLO congregation and is not part of the UUSLO budget. Member volunteers run the pantry. The team takes care of:
– picking up bulk amounts of food from the Food Bank and delivering to UUSLO (a truck or van is helpful)
– setting it up on tables for people to choose what they want
– guiding people as they arrive and go through food area
– cleaning the area afterwards (putting tables away, wiping counters, etc)
– all with a time commitment of roughly 2.5 hrs/week.
