Veterans Day was yesterday, and I am thinking of the great sacrifices made by soldiers, sacrifices freely chosen and, often, not chosen. I am thinking today of the thousands of civilians who sacrifice involuntarily, without any say—their lives, the lives of those they love, their homes, their health, their livelihoods.

I am thinking of all the sacrifices made and inflicted for war and I wonder…what kinds of sacrifices does peace ask of us? What are we willing to sacrifice for peace?
