Many of you know me from UUSLO positions I have held. Throughout the years, I have been a member of the Aesthetics team, Board of Trustees, BlUUmers, Worship Arts committee, Leadership Development Team, Ministry of Generosity, PSWD Board and the RE committee. I am a birthright UU raised in the Berkeley, CA congregation. When I was a child, my mother was very active in RE and I have fond memories of serving lunches and selling items at our fair trade booth in our social hall on Sundays.
I came to San Luis Obispo to attend Cal Poly in 1980 and haven’t left (except for a short stint in the Pasadena-Claremont area to get my Masters Degree in Human Development and teaching credential from Pacific Oaks College). I have spent my life working with and advocating for children, having taught all ages, from babies to college students, throughout my 35 year education career. Twenty of those years, I taught at Cal Poly in the Child Development and Psychology department. My favorite position was as Director of the on campus Preschool lab. In this position, I was able to foster compassionate anti-bias curriculum with students and empower them to engage in developmentally appropriate practices with the children enrolled in the lab program.
In my personal life, my husband, Tom and I have raised three boys here on the Central Coast and enjoy the wonderful weather, outdoor opportunities, friends & family we have right here in our backyard. I’m enthusiastic about embracing the Director of Religious Exploration position and combining my passion for children and youth with my lifelong UU values.
