Rick Miller
Vice President

Rick was born in Detroit in 1945 and grew up in the small town of New Baltimore, Michigan, where he lived one block from the Catholic church, one block from the Lutheran church, and one block from the Congregational church. He graduated from the University of Michigan having earned a BS in Engineering Physics and married Jo Anne Heywood in December of 1967. Upon graduation they moved to Needham, MA, for new employment. There, they joined the Unitarian First Parish of Needham where Rick and Jo Anne served as junior-high youth group leaders. Rick served in the US Army from 1969 to 1971, including one year in Korea as a postal officer.

Rick was a member of the UU church in Boulder, CO, from 1971 to 1976 while attending the University of Colorado and graduating with a master’s degree in architecture. Rick and Jo Anne moved to Glen Ellyn, IL, in 1976, now with two children. He was a member of the Hinsdale, IL, UU church for thirty years where he served as an RE teacher and co-chair of the pledge committee. He also provided the electrical and lighting design for the church remodel. They moved to San Francisco in 1997 and then to SLO in 2008. Jo Anne and Rick are pleased to entertain in their new home and to host their two grandsons and granddaughter for summer vacations.

Rick and Jo Anne joined UUSLO where again Rick provided the electrical and lighting design for the church remodel. They both currently serve as co-chairs for the Circle Suppers. Rick recently retired after a fifty-year career as a consulting electrical engineer. As a board trustee at UUSLO, Rick is serving as the Pledge Campaign Chair.
